Little Sporties Coach - Alec Thomson
MSG Woking welcomes Alec to our coaching staff...
Alec has graduated from the University of Worcester with a BSc Hons in Sport and Exercise Science last year and is applying to do a Post Graduate Certificate of Education. He plays rugby for Chobham RFC 1st XV and has represented Surrey at junior level and North Midlands under 20s whilst at university.
Alec says, 'I have done coaching work with Godalming College rugby team for the last year specialising in strength and conditioning, I enjoy using the gym and take part in 10k runs throughout the year when possible. I also spent a month in Ghana coaching rugby to school children during a gap year. My main specialities are in rugby, athletics and cycling, but I have experience in a lot of sports which I play recreationally. During further study I will be looking to develop my coaching skills by attaining coaching badges.
I feel that sport is the best way for children to learn about themselves and others. Learning to cooperate with others is key to make a team work, and from that comes further enjoyment. Giving children the chance to explore several different activities throughout the year allows them to grow from week to week, and nothing is more satisfying than watching a child grasp a skill and become better at it over time.'
Little Sporties Assistant Coach - Will Berry
We are happy to announce Will Berry onto the coaching staff as Assistant Coach in the Little Sporties program. Will was one of our students for an amazing 10 years, and has gained valuable experience from a number of our coaches. He has a great attitude working with the children, and they respond very well to his instructions. Will's classes are always fun and lively. Keep up the good work Will.
MSG Leisure Ltd Director - Helen Sunday
Helen Sunday is the sole Director of MSG Leisure Ltd and as well as the founder of 'The MultiSports Group' and Principal of our largest MultiSports school in Amersham & Chorleywood. She was previously a mentor for Bucks Education and also runs extra curricular sports clubs in American international schools in Surrey and London. Helen also has a considerable amount of experience working with children who have been referred from occupational therapists to come to MultiSports to help their social and physical development and having had 2 children herself that have gone through this process has a wealth of experience and understanding of the children and the difficulties the parents themselves may have to come up against or deal with internally themselves.
With the growing awareness of the benefits of sport for both physical and mental health, schools are beginning to realise the need for children to increase the amount of exercise they get in a week.
Helen says "Providing extra curricular clubs and weekend schools such as MultiSports means that children have the opportunity to increase the amount of sport and activity and learn essential life skills. Most importantly, in our environment, they are taught by professional and emphatic coaches who have lots of experience coaching children of all abilities."
